MCH is the provider of all NHS Community Child Health Services in Medway.

MCH+ is our traded service for schools to buy additional Occupational and Speech and Language Therapy for pupils that do not meet the NHS criteria.

We know that:-
  • Children who live in areas of social disadvantages are 50% more likely to have a language delay which impacts on their ability to learn.
  • Poor gross motor ability can lead to issues around concentration.
This is why……..

All areas of the brain are involved with learning and teachers help pupils access learning at a higher cognitive level.  To enable the brain to learn, the sensory motor and communication areas must be well developed and be able to work at a subconscious level.  Occupational therapists and Speech and Language Therapists work together with children to help develop functional skills to enable successful learning.

Our Occupational Therapists have enhanced skills in sensory and motor training, so they know how simple physical adjustments can make all the difference to a child’s success.

Our Speech and Language therapists are able to help with communication difficulties that impact on a child’s ability to fully achieve at school.

Did you know?

Reading requires language and good motor skills. For example, smooth eye movements require motor skills  to allow a flow of sequential information to the brain. Likewise the child is required to combine individual sounds to make the words using good motor skills.

Writing requires visual and motor skills to put pen to paper.

Mathematics and problem solving requires pupils to have a fully integrated central nervous system with good communication between the two sides of the brain.

Attention to a task requires pupils to filter out unnecessary information.   This requires an understanding of language and a well- developed sensory system to enable a child to focus.

Training

Our specialist team can provide training for all schools, children’s centres and pre-schools throughout Kent and Medway. We offer expert advice regarding the development of children understanding how a delay in one area can impact upon the child’s ability to learn and to interact socially.
All courses are specific to the age of the child and are grouped as pre-school, primary and secondary. Our course leaders have a wealth of professional experience and knowledge and all work within the NHS. Our courses are also great value starting at just 120GBP (per delegate) for a six hour session. This includes training material, refreshments throughout the day and free parking.

All training is provided in our purpose built training rooms which are fully equipped and allow space to undertake practical and group work.
