The school health team are skilled at adapting and delivering key health messages across all age groups. We have created a number of options for providing support to the whole school population or specific year groups. See details below of the different options currently available. Please note – this is an expression of interest form and whilst we will endeavour to meet your request, on some occasions this may not possible due to team capacity and number of requests.

Assembly
we can deliver an assembly to individual year groups or at whole school assemblies. This is a short session and can be on a range of health subjects including awareness of the school nursing service. We recommend you discuss with your link school nurse prior to requesting.

Emergency Medication in Schools
this will be a generic session on either anaphylaxis, epilepsy or asthma. We will provide an overview, but will be unable to give specific information regarding individual children or their care plans. If you require this, you will need to complete an individual referral form – Referral form Professional and include a copy of the child/young person’s careplan with consent from the parent. Please note - Places on these awareness sessions are limited (maximum of 20 attendees). In determining which members of staff should attend, please consider the working patterns of any potential attendees to ensure your school has appropriately trained member of staff on site throughout the school day.

Primary – Continence
we are seeing a rise in the number of children affected with toileting issues impacting on schooling. This includes children who may be tired at school due to bedwetting; in pain due to constipation or requiring support with toileting routines. We can provide a session with school staff to promote awareness of the strategies to use in school; as well as offering a parent session to deliver the basic principles to manage this.

Primary – Puberty
we can deliver a group session to Yr 6 pupils with the aim of raising awareness of the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty and helping pupils identify ways of managing these changes and where to access support. It will include personal hygiene; physical body changes; feelings and emotions; healthy relationships; keeping yourself safe and will include an introduction to sex education.

Secondary – Drop in (Available from September 2022)
we can provide drop in sessions for pupils to come and speak directly to a registered school nurse about any worries or concerns they have relating to their emotional or physical health. In order to provide this, we would need a quiet, confidential area in school that is available on a regular basis. Ideally, the same room each session, so that pupils become aware of the service and how to access it. Please note, this is a confidential session between the young person and the school nurse. Information would not be shared with school unless clinically indicated or there is a safeguarding concern.

Secondary – Exam Stress
we can provide a session on stress management including identifying ways of taking care of care of both their emotional and physical health during periods of stress and where to access support.

Secondary – Sexual health/healthy relationships/risk taking behaviour (Available September 2022)
Year 9 – content to be discussed with individual schools but would focus on consent, keeping safe, healthy relationships and where to access help if needed.
