Pilates is a mat based exercise class that works on retraining the correct activation of the deep abdominal, back and pelvic floor muscles. Research has shown that retraining these muscles reduces the re-occurrence of low back pain.

Will it work for me?

Pilates is for men and women. It suits all ages and fitness levels and is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, poor postures, sports injuries, arthritis, stress related illness and before and after pregnancy.

What will I need to be able to do?

  • Get on and off of the floor (however can complete on a plinth if needed)
  • Lie down flat on a mat
  • Be able to understand and follow instructions

Please inform your instructor if you:

  • Are currently pregnant
  • Recently have had a baby
  • Have blood pressure, breathing or heart problems
  • Have had spinal surgery
  • Have had any recent surgery
  • Have any injuries
  • Have Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, AS, or any other long term condition

What should I wear?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing so that you are able to stretch and move to perform the exercises.
Please also ensure you wear a pair of socks as shoes will be removed for the class.

Please bring your own towel with you. Mats will be provided.

After the class It is very normal to feel muscle aches and pains after exercise, especially if you have not performed this form of exercise before. This will reduce as you become more familiar with the exercises.
