Darland House is a modern specialist nursing home that provides residential care for adults with dementia or mental health needs, who have associated, complex and intense health care needs.  The service is potentially accessible to patients from any healthcare region provided that the placement has been made via the Continuing Healthcare Assessment and Placements Team.

Our Home

The service provides 24-hour care, within a clean, comfortable and caring environment. Our home is a dementia friendly environment consisting of four self-contained units each with ten residents. The units are:

First floor:  Albatross and Osprey.

Ground floor:  Shalimar and Challenger.

Each resident has an individual en-suite room as well as access to specialised bathrooms. Our lounges are furnished with specially adapted furniture and we have access to adapted seating and beds. The home is situated in secure, large, pleasant grounds, with a sensory garden all of which are easily accessible from the ground floor.

We provide a relaxed environment in which we assist our residents in achieving activities of daily living. We embrace a holistic approach to care and each resident is allocated a key worker who monitors the individual’s personal needs. Family and friends are welcome to come and visit and view the home before their relatives are admitted as this provides opportunities for discussion relating to the care we provide and facilities available. Once residents are admitted, we are open to visitors all day, every day. We do encourage you to book a time, to allow our staff to plan for your visit and ensure they are available to speak to you, but this is not essential.

We provide residents with a range of activities, tailoring the day to personal preferences and needs. Our new activity co-ordinator will look to extend the range of activities and is keen to work with family and friends to ensure our residents interests are being met.

Our residents have access to a visiting hairdresser (bookings via admin team) and nail care/foot health practitioner. We also have a local GP practice who visits the home three times a week to ensure residents medical needs are being met.

Our residents are admitted for a period of assessment and management, some of whom are later able to move to another care setting once symptoms have stabilised. However, other residents remain with us long term. Our residents are continually reviewed to ensure they meet the care home’s admission criteria and we work with families to ensure any changes are made as safely and smoothly as possible.

Our philosophy of care is that management and staff are committed to providing holistic care for all its residents.   We endeavour to treat all that live here with respect, dignity and warmth, and that we maintain independence and individual choice. This approach to care is extended to the relatives and carers of our residents.

Referral to the service is via the NHS continuing care and funded service. GPs can refer to our dementia crisis support team by entering our online referral form.
