Safeguarding support

Health visitorThere is a wide network of support for health visitors in Medway including specialist supervision training from our safeguarding team. The team includes a designated nurse, a specialist nurse in domestic abuse and a named nurse for each individual health visiting team.

Working within Medway, a unitary authority, has enabled us to build close links with the Medway Safeguarding Children Board as well as a strong working partnership with colleagues in the social care teams and local police.

There is regular group safeguarding supervision available to all staff within Medway Community Healthcare who work with children. For health visitors, we provide a robust training programme, which includes monthly workshops covering subjects such as the public law outline, record keeping, writing statements for court and the work of the child abuse investigation unit.

In addition to this, health visitors working with a family who have a child or children on a child protection plan, have bi-monthly case supervision from a named nurse.
