Test results

If you are awaiting test results could you please phone for these results between 10am - 12pm every day

Specimens for the hospital laboratory are collected from the practice about 9am each weekday morning. Specimens can also be taken direct to Medway Maritime Hospital in the main entrance on the right hand wall or MCH House by 4pm.

Results are usually available 4–10 days after the hospital receive them, depending on the type of test.

It is practice routine for all abnormal results to be actioned immediately by a doctor, and patients either informed or asked to make another appointment. Normal results, once seen by a doctor and this can take some time, are usually passed on to the patient when they phone for the result or at the next consultation.

Reception staff have now been instructed that any normal test result will be discussed with a patient when requested even if unread. This process will be managed by the duty doctor, who will respond to a telephone request on the day of the request, if the request is in the morning and at the latest the following morning if the request is made in the afternoon.

Sometimes, we cannot always give full results over the phone. If the result is complicated, or if the doctor wants to see you about the result, we will offer you an appointment. We will only give results to the person who has had the test.

Please note that all blood samples are taken by the phlebotomy service. This service is available on Thursday mornings at the practice, but patients can choose to go to any of the sites that are available. These can be found here >

Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
