  • Falls prevention and care
  • Community physiotherapy
  • Walter Brice rehab centre

Who we are

Within the service we have a range of health care professionals and support staff that includes occupational therapists (OT), physiotherapists, OT technicians and associate practitioners.

What we do

Rehabilitation is treatment that is designed to aid the recovery from injury, illness, or disease to an agreed and realistic level for the patient receiving the treatment.

It includes assisting the people to compensate for deficits that cannot be reversed and promotes coping strategies to overcome any loss in previous ability. The therapists not only consider the physical and cognitive needs of an individual but the social and psychological factors as well.

Rehab at the Walter Brice centre is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team to patients who need additional input and support to recover from an acute event or following deterioration of a chronic condition.

We support clients aged over 16 with a range of conditions and rehab needs. Conditions treated include:

  • neurological disorders – spinal injury, Stroke, MS & Parkinsons
  • long term conditions including chronic widespread arthritis
  • frailty
  • reduced mobility
  • recurrent falls
  • dementia
  • amputees

The centre supports patients with long term conditions (such as MS, Parkinson’s and stroke) where their level of function has deteriorated as a result of their condition or illness and who have realistic and achievable rehabilitation goals

Your first appointment

You will receive an initial assessment either at the Walter Brice centre or our team of therapists will visit you at home.

Patients will be assessed for additional equipment and home environmental needs if your initial assessment reveals this would be beneficial, as well as receiving treatment to promote recovery.

Treatments offered

You will be offered a six week rehab programme that includes OT, Physio and day room activities to promote long term self-management of your condition at home. We will aim to improve your personal and functional abilities through structured therapy, which may include personal care and domestic activities. Day centre activities may include exercise classes, craft (painting, drawing, model making etc), group games and activities to stimulate socialisation and physical activity.

Who can make referrals

We accept referrals from any health professional, including your GP, Consultant, Nurse or allied health professional.

Open hours

The Walter Brice Centre is open from 8.30am until 4.30pm Mon – Fri
