Pelvic health physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy involves the treatment of disorders concerning the pelvis, pelvic floor muscles, bladder and bowel. Our team are all qualified physiotherapists who are specifically trained in the assessment of the pelvic floor. We provide care that is evidence based and led by our clinical experience.

We treat a range of conditions including:

  • urinary incontinence (stress, urge or mixed incontinence)
  • overactive bladders (including urgency and increased frequency of urination)
  • bowel urgency/incontinence
  • flatus incontinence
  • constipation
  • prolapses (uterine, bladder or rectum)
  • painful sex (dyspareunia)
  • pelvic girdle pain
  • erectile dysfunction
  • chronic prostatitis/ chronic pelvic pain syndrome (cpps)
  • problems following gynaecology, prostate, colorectal surgery (to address pain, scar tissue, bladder and bowel dysfunction)

Problems relating to the pelvic floor, bladder and bowels are very common but tend to be ignored. People often feel that their symptoms are normal because they have had children, surgery or because they are becoming older. Many also find their situation is too embarrassing to talk to friends, family and the GP about and so suffer in silence. Our pelvic health team will listen to you and will provide you with specific treatment and advice tailored to your individual needs. Available treatments include:

  • specific pelvic floor muscle training
  • pelvic floor muscle stimulation and biofeedback
  • rectal sensation testing and retraining
  • bladder and bowel retraining
  • bladder diaries and fluid advice
  • constipation and healthy bowels advice
  • pilates
  • manual therapy on the pelvic floor and external muscles
  • soft tissue release
  • appropriate home exercise programs

All of our appointments are held in private rooms and in relaxed and friendly clinic environment. You will be able to discuss any concerns you may have.

Our main aim is to improve your symptoms and enable you to resume/maintain activity and independence in your daily life
