Frozen shoulder

Painful condition in which the shoulder is completely or partially stiff associated with pain on movement. It often developed gradually but may be triggered by a mild injury to the shoulder. The condition usually goes through three phases, starting with pain, then stiffness and finally a stage of resolution as the pain eases and most of the movement returns. This process may take along time, sometimes as long as two or more years.

Frozen shoulder may be associated with diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease.

What would happen at a consultation?

You would first receive a comprehensive MSK physiotherapy examination including a subjective history including your past medical history and current medication.

What treatments would I expect?

Treatment for frozen shoulders may include manual therapy such as mobilisation to the shoulder joint, acupuncture and/or exercise based on your assessment.
