256 miles in
Post date: 11 Mar 2016

Hi all, Marathon Man checking in and with only 7 weeks to go my thoughts are turning to race day and what will be. Training is going exceptionally well and I was proud to have managed a 22 mile training run last Sunday - although my muscles didn’t thank me much for it the following day! Chris at parkun

I’m officially 10 weeks into my training (which seems to have flown by and leaves my operation a distant memory) and to date have run a mere 256 miles (or 9.7 marathons to be exact)!

Each week I have been creeping up the mileage and doing a few more miles on my long Sunday runs. Getting up at 5am on a Sunday to get my porridge down me has not been so fun, so I will be glad for a bit of a lay in when I start to taper off the distances over the next few weeks.

Last week at work saw the start of the big push on my fundraising and the start of the #MCH500miles campaign. My face is everywhere across MCH - notice boards, tables, desks, toilet doors you name it! I did the rounds getting some champions on board to take up my challenge of doing at least a mile in March. For every mile completed MCH will donate £1 towards the campaign, up to a total £500, so I’m encouraging my colleagues to get on board and go out for a walk at lunch or use some of the fitness equipment we have across our locations.

MCH has a big health and wellbeing initiative so it’s been good to link this up as part of our own health and wellbeing, while also supporting Medway Cares. I’ve tried to make it a bit competitive and there are prizes for the team and individuals with the most mileage at the end of the month - I know our cardiology and health visiting teams are out there laying one down already so some catching up may be needed!

I’ve also got sweepstakes going at a few of our offices to guess my finish time, I’m trying to plan a healthy lunch for staff, and I’ve organised a "Trainers for the trainer” day where staff wear their trainers to work and donate a £1.

Hopefully we can smash my £1,000 target together!

This Sunday I’ll be doing my first ever 20 mile official event in Lydd so look out for the posts on the MCH twitter page. The following Saturday (19 March) I will be doing my 100th parkrun in full fancy dress! If you want to get into running, come along and join in (9am start at Kent Life Maidstone) or come and cheer me on! Last weekend I was in support of the #KentGirlsCan campaign but would urge a #MedwayCan campaign and get everyone involved!

Thanking you all,

Marathon Man
